A HDMI switch allows the finish user to select multiple HDMI sources, such as DVD players, settop boxes, in to 1 HD monitor. The basic modelsavailable are 3x1 HDMI switch, which basically means that there's 3 inputs & 1 output. The 3X1 HDMI switch allows the user to switch between 3 HDMI sources. There's also 5x1 HDMI switches obtainable which allows the user to select up to 5 HDMI sources.
