Something about Digital TV

If you've a Sky Digibox, it may not cut the mustard. You'll probably need to buy a digital satellite receiver as well as a dish (maybe a gigantic dish). This won't be subsidised (you pay up-front, not every month). Cost approx 250 to 500+, depending on requirements; on how much installation & configuration work you do yourself; & on whether you buy new from a shop or secondhand from EBay.

If you need to choose up distant or weak satellites, you'll need a gigantic dish. This is true for C-band, so most people stick to Ku-band.

Setting up your satellite technique is not so difficult. In order to put in your dish, you only must program the tiny black box called the satellite receiver. Setting up the satellite receiver is not that difficult tooSatellite DVB cards work similar in a way to TV Tuners with the exception that Satellite DVB cards work solely on Satellite reception. As the broadcast remains in digital all the way to the PC unlike with analogue TV tuners, both the picture & recording quality remains the same as what is broadcast from the source.

The most popular satellite PCI based DVB card is the Skystar2. With this card & suitable drivers & software, this can pick up a variety of content as well as handle various symbol rates, audio & video encoding & send out Diseq 1.0 & 1.2 signals for motorised & multi dish setups. Note that the Skystar2 does not provide support for a common Interface.
